Conjunctivitis, also called pink eye is the inflammation and infection in the conjunctiva of the eye. Conjunctiva is the transparent membrane that lines the eyelids as well as covers the white part of the eyeball.

Due to its contagious nature, the disease spreads very rapidly from one eye to another or from one person to another. So, special care is recommended for patients afflicted with Conjunctivitis.

Classification:

  • Infectious Conjunctivitis – Infection is caused by bacteria or viruses and it do generally spreads from one person to another when in contact.
  • Non- Infectious Conjunctivitis - Commonly attacks individuals who suffers from other allergic disorder’s like hay fever, asthma and eczema. It also occurs because of pollens, smoke, dust mites and cosmetics.
