Osteoporosis unlike osteoarthritis develops silently - resulting gradual bone loss. Osteoporosis is an ailment that cause fragility or thinning of skeletal bones. This is mostly visible in females after menopause or after the surgical removal of uterus due to reabsorption of calcium and phosphate from bone cells or loss of postmenopausal estrogen. This ailment is also recorded in men over the age of 75 with regular or excessive use of steroids, caffeine, or activities like smoking and excess thyroid replacement . The worst part is that the disease does not possess any symptoms in its initial stage and that makes it hard to diagnose. Later, the pain is followed with tenderness in bones, lower back pain or neck pain.
Ayurvedic management of Osteoporosis:

- Sweating :- followed by oleation, mild to moderate sweating/steaming is done with herbs.
- Vasti :- Medicines are mixed in peculiar manner and is administered through the anus which works as an enema. this medicine helps in increasing and maintaining bio-assimilation(process of supplying cells with nutrients).
- Dietary management.
- Regular exercise and meditation.
Hormone deficiency, hereditary disposition or insufficient intake of calcium and protein during childhood are factors causing osteoporosis. Conventional methods are said to have negative effects on patients as the medicines recommended are highly drugged. In such cases, Osteoporosis can be cured effectively by Ayurvedic measures like making some changes in lifestyle and dietary management.
