Stroke is the term used to describe a sudden loss of function in a portion of the brain. Typically, that loss of function results in difficulty in moving an arm or leg (paralysis).The loss of brain function is due to a sudden reduction of the blood supply to a portion of the brain. Within minutes, brain cells begin to die. There are two kinds of stroke ‘ischemic stroke’ and ‘hemorrhagic stroke’. ‘Pakshaaghaata’ is the Ayurvedic term for paralytic affliction. The various stroke symptoms may include sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg (especially on one side of the body), trouble in speaking or understanding speech, seeing in one or both eyes, walking, dizziness, loss of balance, severe headache. The causes for stroke are high blood pressure, uncontrolled diabetes, high cholesterol, smoking, excessive alcohol intake, obesity, carotid or coronary artery disease.Ayurvedic modalities include thalam, nasyam, vasthy and panchakarma therapies, this helps to cure naturally through herbs.
