Cellulitis is a spreading bacterial infection of the skin and tissues beneath the skin. Staphylococcus and Streptococcus are the types of bacteria that are usually responsible for cellulitis. Symptoms include redness, tenderness, swelling, and warmth of the affected area. Skin injuries such as cuts, insect bites, or surgical incisions are the common causes of the infection and it also includes weakened immune system, skin conditions that cause breaks in the skin, such as eczema and athlete’s foot, drug use, diabetes. In Ayurveda, Cellulitis may be compared to Visarpa. Ayurveda can effectively manage cases of cellulitis. The skin swelling, redness and pain can very well be treated with Ayurveda. Not only does ayurveda successfully manage acute cellulitis but it also helps in preventing the recurrent attacks in cases where this tendency is present. Local care of the affected part combined with ayurvedic treatment can ensure good recovery of cellulitis.
