About Post Menopausal Disorders
Postmenopause is the time after a woman's menstrual periods have ceased completely. These are the years after menopause. After the age of 40 years, ovaries reduce their production of sex hormones. As a result, the menses as well as other body functions are disturbed. Finally the menses cease permanently. This ultimate pause is described as menopause. But, as a result of a lower level of estrogen, postmenopausal women are at increased risk for a number of health conditions, such as osteoporosis and heart disease. Postmenopause symptoms include vaginal dryness and itching, weight gain, stress incontinence, urinary tract infections, insomnia, hot flashes, anaemia, weakness, excessive falling of hair. Ayurveda advocates a holistic treatment of menopausal syndrome by utilizing various herbs and minerals. They also use substances known as phytoestrogens, which are estrogens-like substances derived from plants. They mimic the actions of the estrogens in the body but are free from their side-effects.
