About Frozen Shoulder

Frozen shoulder or Adhesive Capsulitis is a condition characterized by stiffness and pain in the shoulder joint. It occurs as a result of inflammation, scarring, thickening and shrinkage of the capsule surrounding the shoulder joint. It is also known as ‘Apabahuka’ in ayurvedic term. Usually it occurs on any one side, only in rare cases it spreads to the other shoulder too. Symptoms of a frozen shoulder include pain, stiffness, and loss of range of motion of the shoulder. The shoulder range of motion is limited when either the patient or an examiner attempts to move the joint. The shoulder can develop increased pain with use. These symptoms can make sleep very uncomfortable. The various causes are age & gender, endocrine disorders, diabetes, shoulder trauma or surgery. Ayurveda has an integrated and holistic approach towards healing Frozen Shoulder. Nasya, oil massage and various herbals are used in ayurvedic treatment of frozen shoulder.
