About Alopecia Areata

Alopecia areata is a common autoimmune disease that results in hair loss on the scalp and any other parts of the body. Alopecia areata usually starts with one or more small, round, smooth bald patches on the scalp and can progress to total scalp hair loss (alopecia totalis) or complete body hair loss (alopecia universalis). The causes are genetic tendencies, environmental triggers, medicines, exposure to chemicals, nutritional deficiency, thyroid dysfunction, and stress. Ayurveda believes excessive pitha dosha as the main reason for this. Ayurvedic medicated hair oil is highly effective for alopecia and also nasya, panchakarma, ksheeravasthi, shirodhara can be used.
